Move your Outlook auto fill contacts
So you have setup a new outlook profile but are missing all your “Contacts” ?
Most likely what your missing is not your contacts, but the auto fill.
Here is an example. Commonly these are not saved as contacts, instead exist in a small .dat file specific to each computer.
To get this back on a new profile or move them to a new computer,
Check our this awesome program. NK2Edit
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/outlook_nk2_edit.html
Using this tool you can open your old Auto fill contacts and move them to a new computer as just a autofill file or add them to contacts them move them to the new system.
Default location for most versions of Outlook on Windows
The location of the nk2 file is C:\Users\[User Profile]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
The name of the NK2 file is identical to the Outlook profile name, with .nk2 extension or a .dat extension.
Special find If office 365 is installed as an app, the default location might be something like this.
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Office.Desktop_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Local\Microsoft\Outlook_AppX\RoamCache
Once you have found the location of the Autofill contacts I strongly suggest making a backup of the largest and most recent file straight away.
To get your contacts into a new Outlook profile or on new machine. First setup your email account.
Next you need to create a new autocomplete stream file . To do this send an email from your new profile to any email address eg: you@here.com.au .
Close Outlook then reopen it. Your recently email address you@here.com.au should appear on the drop down.
Your new file is now created. Open the large .dat / .nk2 file where your contacts are located. Save over the top of your newly created file. You should now have all your auto fill contacts back.
